Virtual Classroom Tours

Even though we can't meet in person,

you can share your classrooms through a virtual tour.

"A day in the life of your classroom"

During the next two weeks, you should be working on a virtual classroom tour. This assignment has two goals.
  • First, all of us will get a sense of the wide variety of schools and classrooms represented in our Virtual Institute.
  • Secondly, I would like each of you to play around a bit with using technology as a means of publishing writing and sharing your classroom.
  • Your tour should include several photos with captions or narration.
A few option...
After you have taken pictures and written about your classroom, pick a specific place to share your work.  You could create another blog like "Virtual Writers 2013" through Blogger; you can create a website;  you can create a PowerPoint and share it with us on Google Docs at docs.google.com. Or you could try another site like Word Press. The Google options are free and relatively user-friendly. You could create or use a youtube and share the link on your page if you are completely into the tech idea or want to play with digital storytelling.  Actually, there are more options than we can list!  Each venue has a brief tutorial about how to use it most effectively. If you already have a website or Blog, you can place your tour there and share the link with us on your personal page.  Sondra's son Nate took this class several years ago and agreed we could share his tour.  It is a typical, basic tour built on Blogger.
BUT...
If in the end all this technology drives you crazy, please just send Sondra or Julia a PowerPoint, and we can share it with others on this page. The most important part of the assignment. after all, is sharing your classroom with the rest of our class.  Playing with technology is secondary!  Challenge yourself, but do not let it stress you!

Here are samples from last year's class: https://sites.google.com/site/writingmatters11/2012-tours  If the link does not work for you, copy it into your browser. Some are not still accessible but many are.

Update 3/12:  We will shift posting to https://sites.google.com/site/virtualinstitute13/ because it is easy to add files of all kinds to this site.
